Permanent exhibition

Maison de la Photographie, Marrakesh

‘Scenes from daily life’ presents some large portraits taken between 1870 and 1910 in addition to some photographs by the talented French photographer Marcelin Flandrin who set up a studio in Casablanca at the beginning of the 20th century. The scenes of daily life show the richness of the different perspectives of western visitors and also depict daily country life. As Delacroix states ‘beauty is everywhere.’ Flandrin took photographs not only of Morocco’s architecture and  landscapes but also intimate images which were more akin to the paintings of the Impressionist movement.

By showing many portraits of women, this exhibition highlights the diversity of the Moroccan population – jewish women, berber women, arabs – all are to be found here.
